playing with analog and de mott on amnesia

i haven't been posting because i've been spending all my procrastination minutes at work playing with analog kid over in one of blogamy's comment threads.

meanwhile, i am a whole day late in pointing your attention to yet another interview at american amnesia. this time the interview is with benjamin de mott and, once again, i highly recommend not just the interview, but also the discussion that follows in the comments. de mott, for those who have not heard of him, is the author of junk politics, a collection of essays denouncing the push for "civility" in public life. de mott argues that this push has caused the media to focus on style not substance in its political coverage and has de-emphasized hard policy decisions that are really the key to any honest political discussion. an overview of de mott's article in harpers on the subject from the daily kos is here.
