blogroll navel gazing

as this is turning into one big waste-time-on-the-computer day, i just messed with the links on the right. my normal practice when i do that is to go through in excruciating detail every little addition and subtraction i have done. but you know what? i'm tired of that. this time, i'm just saying that i made some changes over there. why don't you look them over yourself and see if you can see anything new or missing. do i have to do everything around here? sheesh

as i was picking at my blogroll, it occurred to me that the classification system i use doesn't make all that much sense. who is in the liberal coaliton, at least, is more or less clear. but everything else is a bit of a mess. there is at least one blog in my list of non-blog links. though i have a catagory of "friends' blogs," i have several sites under my "other blogs" heading even though i have hung around the authors enough during drinking liberally to call them my friends. there are also some bloggers i have corresponded with enough to consider friends even though i have never met them in real life. and yet their sites have not moved to the "friends" classification either.

i have run into variations of this problem periodically in my life. i guess i don't like the rigid confines of classification systems. once i follow this train of thought to its logical conclusion, i usually resolve the dilemma by throwing out the concept of classification entirely and go instead with simple alphabetical lists.* that's why wittgenstein sits next to "growing up brady" on my bookshelf. the blogroll isn't there yet, but if i think about it too much, that's probably where the future lies.
