gannon/guckert

i haven't mentioned the gannon/guckert scandal here at all--largely because it's been covered far better elsewhere. i simply have little to add that hasn't been said better somewhere else.

i realize in the last 24 hours everyone's been going crazy over the prostitute angle, but i'm afraid it's obscuring the more serious issue of how this guy with no real journalistic background and operating under a false name got credentials to be a member of the white house press corps as well as access to confidential CIA documents. i know it's hard to resist something as juicy as the fact that the bush administration's plant in the press corps turned out to be a gay prostitute,* but we really should try to keep the emphasis where it belongs. it's pretty clear that the right blogisphere, after ignoring this thing when it first broke, now thinks the outing of guckert is the whole story. the danger is that the more serious allegations will be drowned out by the sordid bits.

as my small part to refocus the debate, i direct your attention to the a FOIA request sent by house representatives louise slaughter (NY-28) and john conyers (MI-14) to the department of homeland security.
