like baseball cards

the los angeles times reports that some american soldiers are making amateur films of firefights. some are set to music and feature gory photos of iraqis. at one point the article characterizes the phenomenon as producing "an abundance of photographs and video footage depicting mutilation, death and destruction that soldiers collect and trade like baseball cards."

i realize these guys are under a lot of stress and are doing whatever they can to cope, et cetera. but reflect for a moment of what would happen if it were reported that iraqis were collecting film of dead and mutilated americans. is there any reason for us not to be equally appalled now?
