umar karami resigned... again.
karami was the pro-syrian lebanese prime minister who resigned to much fanfare after anti-syrian demonstrations hit the streets of beirut. days later (and after an even bigger pro-syrian rally) he was reappointed. and today he resigned again. perhaps he can manage to stay out for a whole week this time.
when karami first resigned, it was viewed as a step towards a new non-syrian-dominated government, but this time it may bring a delay to the may elections and a further entrenchment of the pro-syrian politicians who currently dominate the lebanese government.
yet another demonstration of how difficult it is to reduce arab politics into simplistic paradigms.
