michael kohn has a travelogue-style blog. i met michael in tashkent a year and a half ago. he was working for the lonely planet guidebooks (and still is). thanks to him if you look at the fine print in the back of the current edition of the LP guide to central asia.
apparently he's working on the new guidebook to israel and palestine, but his first post is from damascus. as we get through the summer i will have to resist the urge to make this site "all-syria all-the-time." i tend to get obsessive as i start thinking about travel.
