this study from the project on defense alternatives is an interesting (albeit depressing) read. the study concludes that the insurgency "is now driven substantially by the occupation, its practices, and policies," which is basically what many have been saying all along.
the people i know who are most knowledgeable about middle-eastern politics tend to be the most pessimistic about u.s. policy in iraq. i realize that certain commentators are sure to protest that the study for failing to note the unprecedented surge in iraqi school painting. i welcome any non-anecdotal information they want to throw in to the mix.
