i've never been to new orleans and i've always liked the name "katrina." but this hurricane looks like it might wipe the city off the map. the national weather service alert that atrios posted yesterday is absolutely insane--like something out of a disaster movie. this morning on the radio someone was predicting that it will take 6 months to get the water out if the levies are breached. six months! and that's just getting the water out. the cost must be unimaginable. will they even bother to rebuild?
