3 things

there are a bunch of completely unrelated things i've been meaning to blog about for the past few days. in other circumstances, i would probably make each one its own post. but there are too many and i got too much other crap to do. so, in no particular order:

(1) donate a laptop

over ten years ago my brother moved to nairobi, kenya. he got a grant and helped start this project over which allows street kids in korogocho, a slum of nairobi, to run a business selling sandals that they make. the modern version of the project is ecosandals. if you're currently barefoot (or just want some sandals) go there and order some.

but that's not why i'm posting. obviously running an internet business from a third world slum poses various problems. ecosandals is currently looking for donated laptop computers. so if you have a laptop, or know someone who does, write to: donate[at]ecosandals[dot]com

all such contributions are tax deductible, as Ecosandals, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) corporation organized under U.S. law.

(2) map geek alert

a map that t.e. lawrence (aka "lawrence of arabia") drew of the middle east has been discovered. go to archy's post for an image of the map and a discussion of what it might have meant if lawrence, and not the sykes-picot agreement, had determined the post-ottoman borders of the middle east.

(3) plain old geek alert

my friend CaTHY was somewhat appalled by my less than gushing review of serenity almost two weeks ago. when she flew in for a visit last weekend she had a firefly DVD tucked in her bag that she left with us when she returned home on monday. well, mrs. noz and i are now hooked. the problem is that CaTHY only left the first DVD in the set. we're done with that disk and are a little desperate for more.

so if anyone out there (particularly local people) wants to loan me disks 2-4 of the Firefly dvd set, that would be nice. if you guys let me down, i dunno, i guess i'll have to rent it or something.
