while on the train this morning, i turned the page of my newspaper and saw an article about the miers nomination. "is she still nominated?" i thought. after watching the pile-on miers brigade over the past few weeks, and then more recently with all the attention focused on what we'll find under the tree on fitzmas, i guess her nomination kind of jumped the shark for me. it's like when i saw a story about gary condit after 9-11 and i thought, "oh yeah, i guess they still never figured that one out."
anyway, i guess miers decided that her nomination had jumped the shark too. good riddance.
between the bush administration's reversal on the davis-bacon act yesterday and miers' withdrawal, i'm a little unsure what to say--i'm not used to political victories anymore. what exactly am i supposed to do now again? does anyone remember how this works?
part of the problem with the miers' withdrawal is that bush still gets to nominate someone else. i don't expect to like that person much either. but who knows? i guess there is still a small chance that bush could surprise me. and i really had no doubt that miers would have made a terrible justice.
