since i got back from syria i've been jonesing for real arab coffee. at least the kind they have in damascus. it's not just like turkish coffee either. they blend the beans with spices, especially cardamon.
so this morning i crushed some cardamon beans and mixed them in with my coffee grounds when i poured them into my coffee maker. it tastes... interesting. but not the same. i have a turkish coffee set, but its a little more labor-intensive. i should probably try making turkish coffee with cardamon to see if that turns out right.
in the meantime, does anyone know any place that actually sells real shami-style coffee? or, at least, a good recipe for it? i'm just guessing the measurements. plus, i don't even know what spices other than cardamon might be in it. it will be a while until i can get back to the middle east. my cravings must be satisfied!
