iraq's deputy interior minister's is trying to reassure the sunnis that the prisoners discovered in the interior ministry's torture chamber are from all different sects. "Maj. Gen. Hussein Kamal, said the detainees also included Shiites, Kurds and Turkomen."
it's an odd defense if you think about it: "we're equal opportunity abusers! we torture anybody. hell, bring in some hmong and we'll flay their skin off too."
i realize general kamal is trying to diffuse sectarian tensions, but it probably would be more effective if his government just agreed to international inquiry like sunni leaders are demanding. by acting as if the problem with the torture allegations was an ethnic and religious diversity issue, it seems like kamal is missing the point entirely.
