listening to the radio this morning about condoleeza rice's current european tour, i began to wonder whether she will ever be invited back. rice's comments about "local government[s]... mak[ing] the sovereign choice to cooperate in a rendition" of suspects into u.s. custody is probably not what the ministers of those local governments want to hear. at least not at a time that european public mood is decidedly anti-rendition. even conservative european leaders are apparently feeling the heat.
of course, someone as important as the u.s. secretary of state will probably always be able to score an invitation to europe. the biggest change just might be the look on the local government official's face when she gets off the plane.
