i was just about giving up on them, but it looks like there might have been the necessary breakthrough for the iraqis to form a government.
this is far from getting them out of the woods. and i don't think forming a government will actually get the sectarian violence to stop. but some day the chaos in iraq will end. among the many things that must happen between then and now is for there to be a functioning government there. at the very least, this is a step in the right direction. i have no idea whether jawad al-maliki will make a good prime minister or not. i don't know all that much about him. i'm more commenting on the basic fact that at least they have a person who might be able to actually form a government, which may or may not start the long task of regaining control of the country. it's not much, but it's something.
i'm also a little curious how certain people will react once they figure out that jawad al-maliki used to live in evil country 2.0.
