the PKK is active again. it wasn't all that long ago that the group was considered all-but defunct.
the article doesn't mention it, but i have no doubt that most turks will attribute the kurdish group's resurgence to the chaos in iraq. the PKK has long had bases just over the iraqi border. this is precisely why the turks opposed the invasion of iraq and refused to allow u.s. ground forces to use turkish soil back in 2003. and so yet another argument against the war that seems to be coming true.
