as i read about the forces of the islamic courts winning control of somalia town-by-town, this keeps bugging me: seizing territory by force isn't really a judicial function, it's more of an executive kind of thing.
it's not really the islamic courts that are taking over. they're more like the marshals service than the courts themselves. (although the mental image of a bunch of elderly folks in black robes and british-style wigs going all rambo in mogadishu is rather amusing)
