who ya gonna call?

anyone have any idea what the media will call abu hamza al-muhajir once his bogeyman status really gets going?

abu musab al-zarqawi was usually just called "zarqawi." maybe they will call him "muhajir." "muhajir" means "immigrant." kind of a strange name for a terrorist mastermind. then again, "zarqawi" means "a guy from blue" and that didn't seem to stop anyone.

to complicate matters further abu hamza al-muhajir also has that other name, abu ayyub al-masri. they could just call him "al-masri," except that the press already has another "al-masri"--UK based cleric abu hamza al-masri. you can't have two al-masris, can you?

in fact, you can. indeed, there are seventy million of them. calling someone "the egyptian" is not really a good way to narrow it down to a specific person, but that never stopped the press from calling abu hamza al-masri, "al-masri."

so apparently the meaning of the words doesn't matter at all. i wonder what makes some short form of the name take off instead of others. i'm also curious about how they decide what to do with the "al-" does "al-masri" sound catchier than "masri"? is "zarqawi" cooler than "al-zarqawi" (which i did see, but not as often as just "zarqawi")?

so how will we know whether it should be "al-muhajir" or just "muhajir"? and when will they tell us?
