if you get the chance, go see iraq in fragments. while the rest of the country was watching the superbowl last night, i snuck off for the only screening in philadelphia. i wondered if i would be the only one there, but it turned out to be a pretty good crowd.
anyway, there's now a steady stream of iraq documentaries these days, but this one really stands out. you don't see any combat or war footage. it's just about iraqis in different parts of the country. some of the scenes are still haunting me now a day later. it's not a war movie, though the war is constantly present.
it's just remarkably well done, but also hard to describe. so just see it if you can. unless it wins the academy award (it was nominated in the best documentary category) you may not get much of a chance.
