evangelizing atheists

apparently there's some rule that says atheists aren't allowed to argue in favor of their position. i had no idea. i guess my atheist rule book got lost in the mail.

i've never tried to convert anyone else to atheism. i don't see the point of proselytizing. but it seems to me that if it is acceptable for religious people to try to talk people into their way of seeing things, then non-religious people should have the same option. "evangelizing atheists" is no better or worse than evangelizing theists. no one bats an eye when believers publish books criticizing non-believers, so why should anyone think it odd that some atheists might want to criticize believers?

in other words, i guess i'm more of what yglesias calls a "go about your business" kind of atheist (unless someone tries to talk me into adopting their religion. then i'm perfectly happy to explain my disagreement). but i don't have any more problem with evangelizing atheists than i would with evangelizing theists. well, maybe a little less. evangelizing atheists are more likely to leave me alone.
