ouch

president bush just isn't getting plum commencement address invites anymore:
Whereas he once spoke at Ohio State or the University of Texas, now he's left with Florida community colleges or small schools in rural areas that are run by former aides.
the article suggests that the bush's lack of prestigious commencement invites is due to his status as a "late-second-termer." but prior second-term presidents haven't had this problem. bill clinton, for example, gave the 1998 commencement speech at MIT (while his wife gave the speech at harvard medical school) and he did the university of chicago graduation speech in 1999.

bush's problem is not that people don't want to hear second-termers speak, it's that they don't want to hear bush speak.
