turkish intervention in iraq is almost always part of any worst case scenario story for the conflict. it's what could turn the iraqi civil war into a real regional war, with open participation by iraq's neighbors. i don't think that's what will happen now. turkey has periodically followed kurdish rebels across the iraqi border. chances are turkish troops will leave fairly soon and this won't mark the beginning of a sustained campaign against the northern iraqi kurds.
