busted

gonzo's so totally busted.

it's worth noting that the crime of lying to congress has a statute of limitations of (i believe) five years. i'm not sure what the limitations period for perjury is, but it's probably something like that too. even if the bush administration declined to take action, that doesn't get gonzales out of jeopardy. or, for that matter, anyone else in the administration.

UPDATE: yglesias raises the possibly of a preemptive pardon. i guess that's also a possibility. IMHO, preemptive pardons are the shadiest of all the species of shady pardons. if he did it would probably guarantee that bush will always be a contender on any list of the worst presidents in american history. but i doubt that would deter him from doing it. bush, after all, is a big believer in the doctrine of preemption.
