it's really annoying when people start using an abbreviation for something when i've decided that the same abbreviation stands for something completely different. take hillary rodham clinton: more and more often i see blogs and commentators referring to her as HRC. but in my mind the letters "HRC" were already assigned to the human rights campaign (you have to put a "UN" in front of it for me to recognize it as the human rights council).
and, for the record, all the other things HRC stands for are also officially wrong. sorry, hard rock cafe and harrisburg regional chamber.
i haven't been this upset about an initial-related matter since the immigration and naturalization service (what used to be called the "INS") changed its name to the citizenship and immigration service--there already is a CIS goddammit!!!
