now that karen hughes is throwing in the towel, i wonder if the bush administration will appoint anyone else to the job. i mean, was it a real job? or was it just a place to put his old friend karen?
hughes was completely unqualified for the job and always seemed to be in way over her head. (come to think of it, i guess that's often my impression of the president too). if she gets a replacement, i don't expect him/her to be much better. but then again, even if she were the most competent person in the world, i don't think hughes would have been successful.
america's image problem is a result of american policy. the problem isn't that we're misunderstood, we're understood all too well. no marketing campaign can fix that. the policies will have to change for the country's image to improve. a "public diplomat" is simply not the answer.
