when i was in egypt last month, i seemed to meet a lot of australians. they all were talking about the upcoming national election and they all, even the one who identified himself as "right of center", gave me the impression that john howard and his governing party was doomed.
but the question was, how representative was my sample? the people i met were all budget travelers who chose egypt. all but two of the dozen of so aussies i traveled with resided in england, not australia. howard seemed to have no support at all among the people i spoke to, but maybe that was because he had no support among the kind of australians who would live and work in england and then backpack around egypt for a break.
last weekend i learned my sample wasn't that far off. austalian pollsters take note: before the next election go to egypt.
