i can't decide how to pronounce the initials for the national intelligence estimate.
pronouncing it "nie" makes it sound like "nigh", which seems both overly antiquated and foreboding ("the end is nigh!"). but if i say it as "N-I-E", it makes me think of that movie about the boy and his pedophile in long island. both have the wrong connotation for me to have a serious discussion without getting too distracted.
luckily, i read and write about this stuff more than i talk about it. but i'll be at the philly drinking liberally tonight1 so it could come up. what do you guys say? and how do they say it on the teevee?
