hey, does anyone remember during the bush administration when the far right was lathering itself up in a tizzy claiming that the clinton administration was poised to put u.s. forces under the control of the UN? the flip-out even extended to american participation in peacekeeping missions in the former yugoslavia, and prompted demands that the u.s. assert its sovereignty and remove its forces from the country.
well, these days the bush administration is arguing to the supreme court that u.s. troops in iraq are not actually under the control of the u.s. military, but rather are part of a UN security council sponsored international force that is "legally distinct from the U.S. military."
