tuning out

we're 5 weeks into the 6 weeks preceding the PA primary. for us pennsylvanians this was supposed to be a magical time, a time when everyone was supposed to pay attention to us! 2 months ago they said that this place would be like iowa, where you wouldn't be able to throw a brick through the window of a local diner without injuring a major candidate, or at least some buffoon from a cable news channel.

well, it seems that they totally lied to us. i haven't been throwing any bricks but i've been eyeing the windows and i can certainly testify as to the dearth of targets. before our alleged moment in the spotlight began, i wasn't happy that this endless contest had dragged on this long, but if it was gonna be endless and annoying the least it could do was at least create a fun political circus right here where i live.

now there certainly is a circus, except that it's really just a media circus (and a bit of a blogosphere circus). but when i looked forward to the PA primary circus i meant a meatland circus. i already had those other circuses, i really didn't need any more of them. and because the media and blogosphere are everywhere, there's no added benefit of having an everywhere circus. that circus is always in town.

i guess what i'm trying to say is that i'm not just sick of the primary race, i've become bored by it. for weeks the primary coverage has been about literally nothing. it would be nice if people talked about stuff that is actually relevant to my vote, but they're not. instead it's descended into obsessing about the outrageous statement of the day, many of which are not really all that outrageous but you wouldn't know that if you had the patience to actually follow this thing. i don't, so i've started tuning it out.

it's just descended into foolishness. well, it's always had a good dose of foolishness but it doesn't seem like there's much non-foolish stuff left out there. worse, it's not even fun foolishness. and most worstest of all, no one is paying attention to us like they were supposed to. we're like iowa goddammit! iowa!!!
