indiana jones and the crystal skull

thanks to roxanne, i got to sit in on a reviewers screening of indiana jones and the crystal skull last night. it's hard to cut past the immense reservoir of good will i've built up in my head in favor of this character. i haven't watched the three original movies in about a decade. actually i don't think i've seen the last crusade since i saw it on the big screen in 1989, which makes it closer to two decades for that one. the fact that i haven't seen those films in so long probably only add to their positive glow in my mind.

so what i'm leading up to is that i liked the film. it was fun to be in a theater of enthusiastic indy fans. the older i get the less i like action sequences, but the tongue-in-cheek action of the indy franchise was still fun to watch. that being said, harrison ford did look pretty old and thus was less convincing as an action adventure hero. the plot was, at best, an homage to erich von däniken, at worst, a half-baked x-files episode. if you're not already pre-disposed to like doctor jones, then i'm not sure this film has much to offer.

but other than all the reasons it sucked, it was great!
