mccain on healthcare

what i really don't get mccain's position on health care reform. on the one hand, he praises the wonders the u.s.' current system. in essence, he's warning against the dangers of his democratic opponents' more far-reaching reforms, saying: don't mess with our system, we might lose what we've got!

but then mccain's own health care proposal seems designed to end the employer-purchased insurance system currently have and replace it with a system in which individuals would buy health insurance for themselves. if that happened, it would be a huge departure from how the u.s. health insurance system has worked for the past 60 years. arguably, mccain's plan would be just as far-reaching a change as both the clinton and obama plans, albeit in a completely different direction.

i'm no fan of the current u.s. health care system, but if you're really afraid of upsetting the apple cart, why would you want mccain's plan?
