this is what i don't get about the controversy over where to assign michigan's uncommitted delegates. delegates are people, right? they're not just points. aren't the "uncommitted" just delegates that aren't pledge to any particular candidate? just like superdelegates except that they're elected during the primary process. can't they, like the superdelegates, decide for themselves who they want to support? how can the rule committee or anyone else decide how a delegate (committed or not) intends to vote at the convention?
i guess, to answer my own question, maybe the michigan delegates haven't been appointed yet. in other words, maybe the state isn't getting around to picking the actual individuals to fill each delegate slot until it gets the mess about whether they count or not sorted out. once it is, the clinton campaign and maybe also the obama campaign would get to pick who will fill the various delegate slot. is that the answer?
but if that's the case who picks the individuals to fit the uncommitted slots if they stay uncommitted as the clinton campaign wants?
