is it really such a mystery?

it seems to me that someone probably paid the ransom. not that i'm sure or have any special inside knowledge about how the hostages were freed so abruptly. but isn't that the simplest story that would explain why their captors let them go in the desert with a vehicle? it's strange that the article doesn't even float that possibility.
