...just to be clear, i don't think there's anything wrong about pronouncing pakistan like "pack-istan". it may not be how pakistanis say it, but it is common enough in this country to be one of the standard pronunciations for that name. the thing that bothers me is when they claim there's something wrong with another common way to pronounce the name on the basis that it is "academic" or "exotic". since when is "academic" a bad thing?
