it is remarkable how little the W comes up in the current GOP presidential race. it is a testament to how president bush has become quietly discredited, in the eyes of many republican voters, even if the party leadership has never actually said so.
on the other hand, most of bush's most controversial policies (e.g. indefinite detention, guantanamo, the wars in afghanistan and iraq, tax cuts, opposition to global warming) seem to be popular with all of the current GOP candidates except ron paul. so the disappearing bush phenomenon probably just reflects the fact that it's just hard to reconcile bush's deficit busting policies with the party's sudden rhetorical commitment to austerity.
