the mali coup will fail

i'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that the mali coup will fail. i don't see how the ruling junta will survive very long, with aid being cut off and the military losing ground to the tuareg rebellion in the north. plus there's the absurdity of the whole thing, who overthrows a president who was about to step down willingly? the coup leaders proclaimed they will hold new elections soon, but new elections were already scheduled for next month! the entire operation just seems like nothing more than impulsive "we're pissed off so we must do something!"

so they did something! and now they are in charge of an impoverished country, only with most of the countries who pay their bills against them.
