why would they poll that?

is there any plausible scenario where there would be a three-day obama-romney-paul presidential race? the libertarians have nominated gary johnson already. i don't think ron paul is likely to run as an independent.

last november, paul was asked whether he would run as an independent and he said "I have no intention doing that. That doesn't make sense to me to even think about it, let alone plan to do that.” when the interviewer asked "why?" paul replied: “Because I don't want to do it. That's the reason.” that seems pretty clear to me, but the weirdos in the political press interpreted that to mean that paul "won't rule out" an independent run.

so maybe this is an effort of the notoriously GOP-leaning rasmussen to convince paul to run as an independent run? i mean, assuming that ron paul prefers romney over obama, once he realizes that he won't be the president himself, maybe results like these will convince paul that he is romney's best shot?

i'm just thinking out loud here. because otherwise, i don't see the point of the poll. you might as well poll obama-romney-stan lee. i'm sure that poll would be a lot of fun. but it wouldn't be a serious political poll about the 2012 election.

(via memeorandum)
