i guess it's about time for my quadrennial anti-political convention rant. i get why the parties want to make it a major media event, i don't get why the media are willing to go along with it. as atrios said a few days ago (and again today! (which i only noticed as i went over there to get the first atrios link--i'm really not trying to do a copycat post here tho now i basically am)), the amount of resources they dedicate to covering what amounts to little more than a political advertisement makes even less sense in these times of a belt-tightening press.
actual reportable events used to happen at the parties' conventions. but it's been decades since that was even remotely true. why doesn't one of them do something different?
