i'm not surprised that the obama administration won't mint the coin, but i have no idea why they would publicly rule it out in advance. even if it's not what they wanted to do, what is the point of tipping their hand at this point? it would be a lot smarter to refuse to comment on the coin idea leaving ambiguous what options were on the table. is there any advantage to taking the platinum coin off the table?
