it wasn't all that long ago that antonin scalia was viewed as the principled justice who many liberals respected even if they disagreed with his ultimate opinion. that perception persisted even as the justice got more and more overtly results-oriented in his decisions. now that scalia is going full wingnut from the bench, respect for him has plummeted.
which is a good thing, IMHO. scalia got a lot of mileage out of his vote in texas v. johnson. after watching the justice who doesn't believe in evolving legal philosophy evolve, i have a hard time believing he would vote the same way if faced with that decision for the first time today.
