I don't think there's anything wrong with any person shaking any other person's hand. I realize when you're talking about a national leader, where handshakes are burdened by all kinds of symbolism, it makes those handshakes seem more important than they are. But really, it's just two human being shaking hands. It doesn't mean the hand shakers are bosom buddies, or necessarily endorse anything the other person stands for. It just means that they are capable of acting like grown-ups and be civil to each other.
Others disagree.
But I really wonder what the big deal is. Do they really think that Obama shaking Raul Castro's hand means that he endorses all the abuses of Castro's Cuba? Why doesn't it go the other way too? Is Castro endorsing America and all that it stands for by shaking Obama's hand?
