Rand Paul reaches for the classics

I don't get why Rand Paul is bringing up the Lewinsky thing all of a sudden. It was years ago, it is no longer at all shocking and it doesn't resonate as a serious scandal with anyone anymore. Bill Clinton is no longer President, and even when he was President, the whole attempt to flog the affair into an impeachable offense backfired on the Republicans (they lost seats in the 1998 midterm elections--something that rarely happens for the opposition party in the sixth year of a presidency, and Clinton's approval ratings went up during the impeachment fiasco).

The weirdest thing is that Paul is trying to use Lewinsky to tar Hillary Clinton in the face of her widely expected presidential run. But Hillary Clinton's popularity also increased during the Lewinsky scandal. I thought everyone knew that the cheated-on spouse generally garners sympathy. Bringing it up just seems like a really bad campaign strategy.
