This article is from July, but I didn't see it until today. If we really do have more people working for the solar industry than coal, when will we start seeing the political clout of the solar industry? Any air quality regulation gets slammed as part of the "war on coal", but the GOP works hard to cut tax breaks and subsidies for the solar industry without any word about lost jobs.
Is coal more influential because it is more regional, with some local economies dominated by coal in a way that solar never does? Still I would think that places like Arizona and New Mexico could become as dominated by solar as Appalachia is by coal. I guess that just hasn't happened yet.
