The Trump "Russian reset" has a shorter shelf life than even the Obama "Russian reset"

Do they actually think that Russia would drop its support of Assad just because the U.S. demands it? Putin's Syria policy is one of the pillars of Putin's claim that he has made Russia great again. Why would he possibly drop that policy, creating an implicit message that it was a failure just as a new protest movement has appeared in Russia? Do the Trumpies really think their demands on Russia would work? And if they are clear-eyed enough to know they will not, why are they setting themselves up for failure by telling everyone that is what they are trying?
