Trump, looking very red, basically admits he asked Ukrainian President Zelensky to look into Biden during call that's part of whistleblower complaint: "It was largely [about] fact that we don't want our people like VP Biden & his son creating to the corruption largely in Ukraine" pic.twitter.com/2hvkTbHSJl— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) September 22, 2019
People are sharing this tweet to prove that the President admitted to the fact that he was talking to the Ukrainian president to get him to investigate Joe Biden's son. But I'm sharing it so that we can all step back for a moment and reflect on the fact that the President of the United States is incoherent. This is word for word what his response is to the question about his alleged call with the President of Ukraine (hit play on the video and read along):
"We had a great conversation. Uh, the conversation I had was largely congratulatory, was largely corruption, all of the corruption taking place, was largely the fact that we don't want our people, like Vice President Biden and his son, creating to the the corruption already in the Ukraine in Ukraine, uh, Ukraine's got a lot of problems, he, the new president is saying that he's going to be able to rid the country of corruption. And I said that would be a great thing. We had a great conversation. We had a conversation on many things, in fact, I believe Ukraine put out a statement yesterday saying that we covered many different topics. It was a warm and friendly conversation. We backed I backed Ukraine from the beginning."UPDATE (9/23/19): This is how the New York Times paraphrased the above quote. Why are they bending over backwards to make his nonsense into something coherent?
Speaking to reporters, the president defended his July phone call with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine as entirely appropriate, and stopped short of directly confirming news reports about what was discussed. But he acknowledged that he had discussed Mr. Biden during the call and accused the former vice president of corruption tied to his son Hunter’s business activities in the former Soviet republic.RELATED (also 9/23/19): Read this account from a foreign reporter's surprise at just how incoherent Trump is when she hears him speak in person, as opposed to reading his cleaned-up statements. Seriously, why aren't reporters just printing what the President actually says and noting that it makes so little sense?
