I've started to see almost everything as a symptom of what I now think is the primary issue of our age: the fact that elites are never held accountable for their actions. You can't explain the Trump presidency without it. The main has admitted to crimes on camera, he openly violated provisions of the Constitution, like the emoluments clause, his lawyers argued he could not be charged with a crime while he was president, but now he is not president and still there are crickets.
Anyway, this post isn't about that. This post is about the latest Supreme Court's latest atrocity where the Court held that a guy on death row is now allowed to introduce evidence that he is actually innocent but which wasn't raised at his original trial because he had ineffective counsel. There is no way that six Justices would vote for such an obvious travesty of justice if they had the slightest concern that they, or anyone they are close to, would ever be caught in that catch-22.
Once someone gets to be a Supreme Court Justice, he or she will never be prosecuted for anything. I'm convinced that true no matter what they do. Even if proof comes out that Clarence openly plotted with Ginni to overthrow the U.S. government (oh wait, maybe it has!), there will be no legal repercussions for either of them. And the Justices only associate with other people who can be confident that the legal system will never ever be used against them.
