I realize that Desantis is just posturing in preparation for his 2024 Presidential run (he doesn't really do anything else), but if the law was changed and it was easier for people to sue news organizations for defamation, the first thing that would happen is Fox News, OANN, etc. would immediately get buried by lawsuits. Those channels exist almost entirely by ginning up outrage at a rotating cast of people and corporations. It goes without saying that many of those attacks are based on little actual evidence and can be really harmful to the targets. Even without any reforms to make such suits easier, the Dominion lawsuit alone is already a serious threat to Fox News and other smaller rightwing channels.
