waiting for uzbekistan

i meeting a friend online this morning, a guy i met in uzbekistan a year and a half ago and who has been my pen-pal ever since. we set up an appointment to meet via yahoo instant messenger today. he set the time to meet at 8:00 pm-uzbekistan time/10:00 a.m. new york time. i realized this morning that 8pm in uzbekistan is not 10am in new york. it's 11. so now i don't know when to meet. i'm betting my friend does not know about daylight savings time. they don't have it in uzbekistan and, if he looked it up, new york is 10 time zones away from him. but to be sure i catch him, i'm basically hanging out on the computer between 10 and 11

as i wait i've been reading up on uzbek news. the argus is still the best place to go. nathan has really outdone himself, he constantly updates and provides links from everywhere: news sites, people in uzbekistan, translations of russian news sources. if you don't know much about uz and want a bit of background, i recommend this post from a peace corps volunteer who is in uzbekistan now (link, of course, via nathan)
