i'm amused by william weld's bid to become governor of new york. i think it's funny because it reflects a this bizarre notion that new york is a stepping stone to the presidency. at least in conservative circles, that's what hilary clinton's senate run was seen to be. and recently, it seems to have slipped into the ranks of conventional wisdom among political wonks. and weld apparently bought it too.
i guess he's scared that a massachusett's governorship is automatically deemed too liberal to get a republican nomination. and perhaps he's right. but being governor of new york really seen as any better to the wacky fringe that controls the republican party?
