security clearance

this seems like a no brainer to me. actually, i wonder why it took so long for anyone to ask for rove's security clearance to be suspended.

it really has nothing to do with whether karl rove will, at the end of the day, be charged or convicted of any crime. it's a security precaution. i was under the understanding that the standard practice is for anyone suspected of passing along classified information has their security clearance suspended while the matter is investigated and until they are cleared. it's really just common sense. at least it is if you take the idea of classified information seriously.

that's what they do with people whose job depends on having a security clearance. they simply have to go on leave until the matter is cleared up. in rove's case the security clearance is not critical to his job. as much as i would love it if rove was suspended from all his job duties, i don't even think a suspended security clearance requires that rove stop working entirely. he can still provide some advice to the president on political strategy without having access to classified information.

so why does rove still have his security clearance?
