more questions

,Do I have the legal authority to do this? The answer is "absolutely".

-president bush this morning

how many times is bush going to just tell us that he has the legal authority to authorize warrantless wiretaps without explaining what that authority is? even his lawyers can't come up with anything but flimsy answers. the only defense seems to be that the president is not required to follow the law. but why have any laws then? how is that different from a dictatorship? doesn't that make it impossible for any president to ever be impeached? (impeachment requires that a president be found guilty of "high crimes or misdemeanors," a standard that can never be met if criminal laws don't apply to him)

the bush administration has talked nonsense before, but they're really pushing the envelope with this one.
